Lose yourself
In a maze of moments
As the labrynthine veins of the city
Pulse silver blood
An array of metal serpents, snaking
Through the ground,
Below the streets
'Neath the surface of the city lays
A hundred thousand scattered souls.

I wrote this poem about the subways of New York City--I visited there recently, and one thing that I found truly amazing was the labrynthine maze of subways beneath the ground. I saw some of the most interesting things on the subway, too--some very interesting people--and got a lot of insight into the lives of New Yorkers, just riding on the train. If you look beyond the surface, beyond the skyscrapers and cities, you get a glimpse of the true heart of the city--what makes the city its wonderous self.
